Aarsleff to renovate sewers in the Netherlands

Aarsleff has entered into a long-term contract in Groningen in the Netherlands. In future, Aarsleff and a Dutch partner will be responsible for the sewer rehabilitation of the municipality

Per Aarsleff A/S has entered into its most significant contract on the Dutch market so far. After the invitation to tender and subsequent contract negotiations, we succeeded in obtaining a multi-annual contract for rehabilitation of the sewer system in the Dutch municipality of Groningen.

The contract is inspired by the principles of a current framework agreement between Aarsleff and the Danish utility company Aarhus Water about sewer rehabilitation in Aarhus Municipality. The framework agreement is carried out in partnering collaboration and comprises objectives of ongoing efficiency improvements over a multi-annual period. The goal is that the collaboration between contractor and client is to result in rationalisation and thus a reduction of the costs for sewer rehabilitation.

Aarsleff has been active on the Dutch market during recent years, and the job in Groningen is the most significant so far. ”We are pleased to be able to export Aarsleff Pipe Technologies' activities to the Netherlands also and look forward to the new working relationship. Moreover, we are sure that we will benefit from the partnering agreement with Aarhus Water and from several years’ successful working relationship with a great number of Danish municipalities and utility companies", says divisional manager of Aarsleff Pipe Technologies Hans Christensen.

General Manager of Aarhus Water, Lars Schrøder, is of the opinion that Aarsleff’s success on the Dutch market shows that there is a great potential in Europe for exporting Danish know-how: ”There are many Danish workplaces and a large market in Europe within sewer rehabilitation and climate adaptation solutions, because we are among the leading nations in the world in this field. This is due to a close, dialogue-based and innovative collaboration between private companies like Aarsleff and the Danish utility companies. We must utilise and further strengthen this position, but we need unqualified political support”.

The framework agreement will run through 2013 and 2014 with the option to extend it by another two years. The contract has an estimated value of EUR 16 million and will be carried out in collaboration with the Dutch contractor BAM Nelis De Ruiter bv.
